An evolutionary shift in human consciousness has been predicted for many thousands of years by many Bibilical, astrological and esoteric scholars. These writings have always fascinated me, Janae, and been part of my own personal and spiritual exploration.
José Argüelles, a Mayan scholar and artist, served as my faculty advisor in my doctoral program. He was heavily involved in Mayan research and writing several books in the three years that I worked with him doing tutorials on geomancy and other topics related to human evolution.
I went on to explore the work of Barbara Hand Clow, Carl Calleman and John Major Jenkins, all Mayan scholars who have researched the prophesies of the Mayans, Incans and Hopis. Their research into ancient indigenous prophesies revealed very similar predictions of an immanent shift in consciousness.
Indigenous Prophesies About An Evolutionary shift
The Mayans believe that human evolution unfolds as a result of long cycles of time. According to John Major Jenkins, their mystery plays myths, spiritual rites and practices were all re-enactments of a cosmic drama created by the alignment of Earth’s sun with Galactic Center in 2012.
They described this alignment as a kind of cosmic intercourse between Father Sun and the Great Mother of Galactic Center that will birth all of creation into a new reality. Pregnancy, birth and embryogenesis were central concepts in their tradition.
The Mayan’s have been keeping time on Earth for 5000 years. They created codices or cosmic calendars such as this one to track the timing of humanity’s passage through a great metamorphosis. Their Mayan Long Count Calendar measures long cycles of time, and marks 2012 as the close of several large cycles of time.
The first cycle is the completion of the Galactic Year. They believe that it takes 225 million Earth years for the Milky Way Galaxy to make one complete rotation in the sky, and that December 21, 2012 marks the end of a Galactic Year.
The Mayans also believe that 2012 also marks the end of a 26 million year Earth cycle, a 78,000 year Earth cycle and the close of the 26,000 year Mayan Calendar.
We might think about closing of these large time cycles as a kind of “cosmic odometer” that marks the rollover or turning point the history of humans, Earth, our galaxy, and perhaps, all of creation. On the Mayan calendar, December 21, 2012 is written 188.8.131.52.0 — exactly as you’d see on the odometer of your car.
The Tzolkin calendar, one kind of Mayan calendar, is based on the 260-day term of human gestation. It is a harmonic representation of the 26,000-year Mayan calendar. 260 x 100 = 26,000. It appears that the Mayans used their calendars to monitor the evolution of the human species.
Their Tzolkin Calendar was designed to track both the evolution of both an individual human and the 26,000-year Mayan calendar. From a Mayan perspective, all of creation is shifting into its next octave of evolution. Butterfly.
While the term ASCENSION is typically used to describe human transformation, Jose Arguelles used this word to describe evolution and transformation at a planetary level. He writes about this in his book, Earth Ascending, which he wrote while I was studying with him.
Astrological Aspects of The Evolutionary Shift
Astrologically, we are transitioning from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius. Astrologers say that the Piscean Age has been about humanity struggling with an artificial divisions and a belief in separation. Subsequently, this has been an age of conflict and wars, as humanity has been learning how to unite opposites and dualities, including the body and the soul.
The Aquarian Age is about opening our hearts amd our minds and experiencing all creation as One. Esotericists say we are forming a “group soul” as we evolve from the Human Kingdom to the Spiritual Kingdom. Partnership, unselfish service, group work and the sacrifice of the ego for the good of the group are the hallmarks of this evolutionary shift and humanity’s “entrance into heaven.”
We can look in one direction and see the breakdown of Piscean structures based on competition and scarcity. And, when we look in the other, we see the sprouting of new Aquarian structures based on partnership principles and the sharing of resources. While this transition can cause confusion and anxiety, it represents a unique window of opportunity for us to consciously participate in this incredible evolutionary shift.
